General comments

Bij behoud van de prothese bestaat de kans op therapiefalen. Deze kans is het kleinst indien de infectie is ontstaan kort na plaatsing van de gewrichtsprothese, indien er geen sprake is van loslating en er gestart kan worden met effectieve therapie kort na het ontstaan van symptomen. Overweeg in andere gevallen altijd verwijdering van de prothese.

Behandeling is gebaseerd op zowel het orthopedisch beleid als geisoleerde micro-organismen. Antibiotische behandeling in overleg met arts-microbioloog.
